Cmdr. Kristopher A. Robinson photoCommander Kristopher “Metro” Robinson joined the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in October 2016 following a tour as a Country Program Director for Saudi Arabia at the Navy International Programs Office. Cmdr. Robinson is a U.S. Navy Foreign Area Officer (FAO), specializing in the Middle East and North Africa.

A native of San Diego,  Cmdr. Robinson reported for pilot flight training in Pensacola, FL, in 1999 and earned his Wings of Gold as a helicopter pilot in May 2001. Following training in the SH-60F/HH-60H aircraft carrier-based helicopter, from 2002 to 2005 he served in Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron SEVEN (HS-7) at NAS Jacksonville, FL, twice deploying in support of combat operations in the Middle East. From 2005 to 2007 he served as an H-60 instructor pilot with the Warhawks of (HS-10) in San Diego.

Cmdr. Robinson was selected to be the Aide and Executive Assistant to the President of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in 2007 and served in this capacity until 2009. In January of 2010 LCDR Robinson joined the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) community, and from 2011 to 2012 attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, as a student in Modern Standard Arabic. Following language training, CDR Robinson reported to the staff of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / Commander, U.S. FIFTH Fleet, located in Manama, Bahrain, where he served as the Country Engagement Officer to the Sultanate of Oman and Republic of Yemen until May 2014. Following this, Cmdr. Robinson was selected to be the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans, and Strategy (OPNAV N3/N5), where he served until September 2015.

Cmdr. Robinson holds a Master’s Degree in Security Studies (Middle East, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Arica) from the Naval Postgraduate School, where he received the Liskin Award for Excellence in Regional Security Studies, in addition to recognition for an Outstanding Thesis. CDR Robinson also holds a Master’s of Science from the University of San Diego School Of Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from San Diego State University.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Air Medal (Strike Flight), Navy  Commendation Medal (Three Awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various Unit awards and commendations.
