Anthony T. Walters

Lt. Col. Walters joined the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in June 2018 as a Senior Army Fellow. Lt. Col. Walters was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He entered military service immediately following graduation from Damien Memorial High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force then transferred to the Army, earning his commission as a second lieutenant from New Mexico Military Institute.

He originally commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery Officer then branch transferred to Ordnance and later Logistics.

Prior to his arrival at DKI APCSS he was assigned as the CASCOM Commanders Planning Group Chief. Lt. Col. Walters’ served as the commander, AFSBn-Stewart from June 2015 to June 2017. He served on the Army G3/5/7 staff in the training directorate as the deputy division chief for the Army Munitions Management Division. He also served on the Army G4 staff in the sustainment branch managing the Army’s Depot requirements. From 2011 to 2013 he served in U.S. Embassy, Cairo, Egypt as the land forces branch chief for the Office of Military Cooperation. He served as the Brigade XO for 11th ADA BDE in support of OEF and OIF managing Air Defense sustainment operations between Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE and Qatar. He also served as the 11th ADA BDE S4/Support Operations Officer at Fort Bliss Texas. Lt. Col. Walters served as the Brigade S4 for 402nd FA Training Support Brigade, Travis AFB, CA supporting USAR, ARNG and U.S. Navy deployments from Fort Bliss, TX, Fort Hood, TX and Fort Lewis, WA. Lt. Col. Walters commanded 178th Maintenance Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom then relocated the unit to Korea.

Lt. Col. Walters has a Bachelor’s degree in criminology and a Master’s in business administration. He is a graduate of CGSC, CLC3 and the Ordnance Officers Basic Course.

His awards include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6 Oak Leaf Clusters); Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters); National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals; the Army Staff Badge; the Ordnance Samuel Sharp Award; and the Artillery Saint Barbara Award.
