Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Coulon arrived at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in June 2018 as an Army War College Senior Fellow.  A native of Tampa, Florida, he initially enlisted in the Army in 1992 and later received his commission as a Second Lieutenant of Armor in 1998.  Jeff recently served as the Division Chief for Strategy and Policy, G-5 on the staff of United States Army Pacific at Fort Shafter, HI.  His previous assignments included Executive Officer to the Director, Strategy, Plans and Policy, J5, United States Central Command and Branch Chief and Warplanner for the Levant, Syria, and the Military Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

LTC Coulon is an Army Strategist (FA59) who has served in command and staff positions in Airborne, Mechanized, and Reconnaissance units, at the Division and Combatant Command levels with combat deployments to Iraq, and on the faculty and staff of the United States Military Academy at West Point. 

Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a Master’s in Public Policy from George Mason University and is a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration. He has graduated the Armor Officers Basic Course, the Advanced Field Artillery Officers Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Red Team Leaders Course at the University of Foreign Military and Cultural Studies, the Defense Strategist Course, and the Basic Strategic Arts Program at the U.S. Army War College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Ranger tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and various other awards.
