Major Jennifer “Maggie” Matthews joined the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in June 2023 as a military fellow following her tour at the Pentagon, where she served as the Military Assistant to the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force. Lucas Crouch joined the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in July 2023 as a Military Professor in the College of Security Studies after ​embedding with the Japan Air Self Defense Force 401st Tactical Airlift Squadron as a C-130H Exchange Pilot and Officer under the Military Personnel Exchange Program Indo-Pacific, Secretary of the Air Force-International Affairs. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies celebrates the life of former professor and Navy Captain Albert Shimkus Jr. (April 6, 1945 - March 12, 2022). Born in Hopedale Massachusetts, he graduated from Hopedale High School in 1965 where he was a runner on the cross country team. After graduation, while the U.S. was fully engaged in the Vietnam War, he enrolled in seminary. He left the seminary and lost his 4D Deferment Status and quickly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Major Botardo is currently assigned to the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI-APCSS) as USINDOPACOM Foreign Area Officer, with a regional focus in Southeast Asia. He joined DKI-APCSS in August 2017 as a Military Professor and College Operations Officer. Prior to joining DKI-APCSS, Maj Botardo was a student at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California studying Southeast Asia regional security studies under the Air Force International Affairs Officer Deliberate Development Program.
